Which number is lucky for a car

There is no number that is lucky for everyone. In numerology the question has a narrower answer: which plate totals are friendly to your own birth number, your mulank. A total of 5 suits almost everyone. A total of 8 suits only a few. This guide lays out the full picture so you can see where your number sits.

None of this is advice about safety or money. It is a number game with a traditional rule set, and the rules are shown in full below.

What "lucky" means here

A plate has a total from 1 to 9, got by adding its digits and reducing the sum. For example KA01XY2259 has digits 0, 1, 2, 2, 5, 9, which sum to 19, then 1 + 9 = 10, then 1. The total is 1.

A plate is called lucky for you when its total is a friend of your mulank in the traditional table. The planet of each number does the explaining: 1 Sun, 2 Moon, 3 Jupiter, 4 Rahu, 5 Mercury, 6 Venus, 7 Ketu, 8 Saturn, 9 Mars.

To find your mulank, take your day of birth and reduce it to one digit. Born on the 23rd: 2 + 3 = 5.

The table in full

Read each row as: if your mulank is this, these plate totals are friends, neutral or clashes.

This is the table the site uses, from the traditional Cheiro and Sepharial lineage. Other authors differ on a few cells.

What the table tells you

The most forgiving plate total is 5. It is a friend to seven mulanks and neutral to the other two (7 and 8). Mercury is the planet of trade and speed, and a total of 5 is the usual answer when someone says "just give me a safe one." See plate total 5.

Totals 1, 3 and 9 suit the sunny group. Mulanks 1, 3 and 9 share each other as friends, so a plate total of 1, 3 or 9 works for all three.

Total 6 and total 7 suit the quieter group. Mulanks 4, 6 and 7 treat each other as friends. A total of 6 is the Venus number, associated with comfort and appearance. See plate total 6 and plate total 7.

Total 8 is the narrow one. It suits only mulanks 6, 7 and 8, and clashes with 1, 2, 3 and 4. See is 8 lucky for a car for the full discussion, including 4.

A quick way to shortlist

  1. Work out your mulank.
  2. Find your row above and note the friends.
  3. At the RTO fancy-number stage, add up each candidate plate and keep only those whose total is a friend.
  4. Among the survivors, prefer the plate total that equals your own mulank.

Worked example: you were born on the 18th, so 1 + 8 = 9, mulank 9. Your friends are 1, 3, 5, 9. The plate DL1CDD2222 has digits 1, 2, 2, 2, 2, which sum to 9, a total of 9. That is the same number as yours, so it is the cleanest match. The plate MH20AA1185 has digits 2, 0, 1, 1, 8, 5, which sum to 17, then 1 + 7 = 8. A total of 8 is only neutral to mulank 9, so it is acceptable but weaker.

Two cautions

The letters. Plates carry letters, and some people convert them to numbers and add those too. The totals then change. Pick one convention before you compare; the digits-or-letters guide explains both.

Group numbers. Some practitioners also check the total before it is reduced, such as the 19 in the first example. This site does not score that step, so a plate can read differently elsewhere.

Run the sum for your own plate and birth day in the calculator, or read your mulank page, for example mulank 5, to see its friend list and example plates.
